Pat Spearman

Nevada District 04

Pat Spearman is a leader in every space she inhabits. Whether it was during her 29 years of service in the U.S. Army where she quickly rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel, her election to the San Marcos Independent School Board where she chosen by her colleagues to serve as President after 6 months in office, or being named Chair of the Legislative Operations and Elections Committee after her first term in the Nevada State Senate, Pat is known as a tireless advocate for resources for veterans, equal pay for equal work and LGBTQ+ rights.

Pat has built a network of grassroots supporters that allowed her to defeat the incumbent in her campaign for state Senate with 63 percent of the vote despite being out spent fifteen to one.

As an ordained minister with a Ph.D. in Business Administration focusing on energy policy, Pat carries a breadth and depth of experience not commonly found in Washington.

Urgency and Optimism: Chisholm's Legacy and the Status of Black Women in American Politics Today
By Glynda C. Carr & Kelly Dittmar, Ph.D.

Today would have marked the 91st birthday of an American trailblazer. Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm (D-NY) approached public service with unmatched zeal and urgency. She became the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress in 1968, and the first Black person and first woman to win delegate votes at a major party presidential convention in 1972.
