Higher Heights for America Endorses Jersey City Council President Joyce E. Watterman for Mayor of Jersey City

BROOKLYN (June 5, 2025) — Higher Heights for America, the leading national organization dedicated to building the political power and leadership of Black women, is proud to endorse Joyce E. Watterman for Mayor of Jersey City. As the first Black woman to serve as City Council President, Watterman has spent over a decade delivering results for working families and underrepresented communities across the city. 

Throughout her time in office, Council President Watterman has led with integrity, experience, and a deep commitment to public service. She has championed legislation to expand affordable housing, strengthen pay equity for women, invested in youth programs, and created pathways to good-paying jobs through apprenticeships and workforce development. With her aid, Jersey City launched its first Women’s Advisory Board and has been a consistent voice for environmental justice, safer neighborhoods, and a more transparent, accountable government.

Her record proves she is focused on delivering results and standing up for fairness and equity.
