BROOKLYN (April 10, 2025) — Tonight, Mayor Tishaura O. Jones concluded her historic tenure as the 47th Mayor of St. Louis after losing her re-election bid. Elected in 2021, Jones made history as the first Black woman to serve as mayor—ushering in a new era rooted in equity, accountability, and people-powered governance.
With a career in public service spanning more than two decades, Mayor Jones led with vision, courage, and a deep commitment to the communities she served. From advancing public safety reforms to modernizing city services and expanding financial empowerment, her administration created lasting change and uplifted the voices of those too often unheard.
Higher Heights for America proudly endorsed Mayor Jones in her first campaign for mayor, recognizing her groundbreaking leadership and vision for transformative change.
“While the outcome of this election is not what we had hoped for, the impact of Mayor Jones’ leadership is undeniable,” said Glynda Carr, President and CEO of Higher Heights for America. “Her courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to equity have set a powerful example of what’s possible when Black women lead. We are proud of the historic work she has done and will continue to support the next generation of Black women leaders who are inspired by her trailblazing path.”
As her term ends, we celebrate all that Mayor Jones has accomplished, and we thank her for inspiring the next generation of Black women to lead, serve, and transform their communities.
