Juliana Stratton

Juliana Stratton

Illinois - Lieutenant Governor

Higher Heights for America PAC is proud to endorse Juliana Stratton for Illinois Lieutenant Governor.

On August 1st, Juliana was among 81 candidates endorsed by President Obama.  He described his picks as "diverse, patriotic, and big-hearted”.  As a lifelong Illinoisan, fixing the problems in her state is very personal.  As a state representative, Juliana spent every day fighting for her constituents and as lieutenant governor she will stand up for all Illinoisans. Juliana is currently a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing District 5.  She has served as the executive director of Cook County Justice for Children and the Cook County Justice Advisory Council. She was the founder and president of JDS Mediation Services, Inc. and taught conflict management and negotiation skills at Loyola University Chicago. Stratton currently serves as the director for the Center for Public Safety and Justice at University of Illinois at Chicago.

Adding Juliana’s voice to the executive chamber will ensure that, in partnership with the governor, issues such as the approval or veto of district maps drawn following the 2020 Census properly represent the diversity and population density of the state.

The 2014 electoral cycle marked the first time in Illinois history that candidates for the offices of governor and lieutenant governor ran on a single ticket in the primary election. The new joint ticket rule is intended to increase the importance of the lieutenant governor by strengthening the officeholder's partnership with the governor.

Juliana’s running mate, J.B. Pritzker, has worked as an advocate and leader in early childhood education, on both the national and local level.  He has supported the Center on Wrongful Convictions, an institution that stands up for wrongfully convicted men and women, who have unjustly been put in prison.

The time is now to elect more Black women to be at decision-making tables to represent us. History shows that when Black women gain political power we champion policies that benefit multiple communities. That is why Higher Heights is investing in a 2020 strategy to elect more Black women to executive office at the state and municipal level.

We know Juliana will carry the priorities of Black women, their families and communities with her into the Illinois Executive Chamber.
