Rosa Underwood Gill is a retired educator and director of Traffic Records with the Division of Motor Vehicles. While at Shaw University, Gill began her political involvement by participating in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. She helped elect the first African American Wake County Commissioner and worked on numerous campaigns to elect public officials at all levels of government. Prior to being appointed to the North Carolina General Assembly, she served as chair of the Wake County Democratic Party, the Wake County Board of Elections and the Wake County Board of Education. Gill was first elected to the Wake County Board of Education in 1999 and re-elected in 2003 and 2007.
