Sharon Weston Broome is the mayor-president of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was elected on December 10, 2016, and assumed office on January 2, 2017. Broome is Baton Rouge’s first black female mayor-president. Broome was a Democratic member of the Louisiana State Senate, representing District 15 from 2005 to 2016. She also represented District 29 in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 2004, and served as speaker pro tempore of the House and president pro tempore of the Senate. Broome graduated from the University-LaCrosse with a B.A. in Mass Communication and holds an M.A. in communications from Regent University.
