Dr. Barbara Sharief is a candidate for U.S. Congress, District 20 (FL).
For the past eleven years, Barbara Sharief has served as a Broward County Commissioner, County Vice Mayor and two terms as Broward County’s first black female Mayor.
Prior to becoming a County Commissioner, Barbara served on the Miramar City Commission where she also served as Vice Mayor.
During her tenure as County Commissioner, Barbara was also elected the first black female President of the Florida Association of Counties, where she advocated for all 67 counties in the State of Florida.
Currently, Barbara is a member of the National Association of Counties and the past Chair of their Health Steering Committee. She also regularly attended their Large Urban County Caucus. Barbara has been to Washington numerous times advocating for her constituents on important issues like healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, clean water, criminal justice reform, mental health, and on rural and agricultural issues.
Barbara also currently serves on the 16 county Coalition for Responsible Management of Lake Okeechobee.
Since 2009 Barbara has served as a Board Member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization which plans, prioritizes, and funds the delivery of diverse transportation options in the region.
Professionally, Barbara is the Founder and CEO of South Florida Pediatric Homecare, Inc., which specializes in pediatric and adult homecare services for medically complex children and adults. It is

one of the largest homecare companies in South Florida. She currently employs more than 200 frontline heroes.
Barbara has also had the privilege of traveling with AIPAC to Israel, one of our most important and strategic allies. Barbara was able to see, firsthand, the beauty of Israel as well as the dangers they face on a daily basis.
Additionally, Barbara has a long history of community involvement.
She is a member of the Miramar-Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce and serves on their Government Affairs Committee. She was recently appointed a member of the Pompano Beach CRA Board. Barbara is also a member of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, the National Organization for Women, The League of Women Voters, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Miramar Democratic Club, to name a few.
Barbara has six degrees including a Bachelor of Science (BSN) and a Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from Florida International University, an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Certification
