Kamala D. Harris is the 49th and current Vice President of the United States, known for her dedication to public service. From her roles as District Attorney of San Francisco and Attorney General of California to serving as a U.S. Senator and now Vice President, she has consistently fought for the people.
As Vice President, Harris works to advance opportunities, deliver for families, and protect fundamental freedoms. She champions women’s rights, gun safety, voting rights, and environmental justice. Internationally, she has strengthened global alliances through extensive travel and meetings with world leaders.
Harris is a vital partner to President Biden, contributing to job creation, infrastructure investment, gun safety legislation, and improved maternal health. She holds the record for the most tie-breaking votes by a Vice President and played a key role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act. She also oversaw the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.
Harris made history in 2020 as the first woman, Black American, and South Asian American elected Vice President. Inspired by her activist parents and her education at Howard University and UC Hastings College of Law, she has spent her career breaking barriers and empowering others.
In the Senate, she championed legislation on hunger, rent relief, maternal health, small business support, infrastructure, and climate change. As California’s Attorney General, she secured significant settlements for homeowners and students, defended the Affordable Care Act, and enforced environmental laws.
As San Francisco’s District Attorney, she advanced LGBTQ+ rights, created an environmental justice unit, and implemented a program for first-time drug offenders recognized as a national model. Her career began in the Alameda County DA’s Office, specializing in child sexual assault cases.
