State Rep. Karen Camper has represented District 87 in Memphis since 2008. She attended Southside High School in Memphis and the University of Tennessee, later graduating from SUNY Albany. She is the mother of one and a small business owner. Rep. Karen Camper is a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army, working in Intelligence. She is a charter member of Women in Military Service for America and her military career includes a Meritorious Service Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Military Volunteer Medal.
Rep. Camper is now the first African-American woman or man to be elected Leader of the Tennessee House Democratic Caucus in the Tennessee General Assembly. A historic accomplishment that should pave the way for future generations.
