Higher Heights for America PAC was proud to endorse Melissa Borom to represent Indiana’s 1st Congressional District.  Melissa Borom is a 32-year-old native of northwest Indiana who has been recognized among the  Northwest Indiana Times “Top 20 Under 40”.  An attorney, Melissa is a Senior Government Affairs Manager for an independent provider of global aviation services.

Melissa is from a community that has a significant number of tradesmen who are aging.  She understands that it is important to focus on building a workforce pipeline for the trades, using apprenticeship programs. Melissa has worked to help fund and guide job training programs that partner with local schools and businesses to help students learn the skills needed to become aviation maintenance technicians. She is committed to developing job skills for those who don’t attend college, and she will continue that work in Congress.

Additionally, as a Black woman in the aviation industry, Melissa has seen the racial disparities in certain industries as well as the pay disparities between men and women.  She is committed to addressing these disparities when she is in Congress.  While in law school, Melissa worked in the offices of northwest Indiana’s Congressman Pete Visclosky, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and for the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations in Washington, D.C.

Melissa is the daughter of a 35-year East Chicago school teacher and a 20-year Merrillville school custodian. She understands the values that make a community strong and the problems that we need to tackle.

If elected Melissa will support equal pay for equal work, she will work to ensure that every person has health care, address housing discrimination, support preventative measures to eliminate homelessness, advocate for workforce development programs and work to provide criminal justice reform.

History shows that when Black women gain political power, we champion policies that benefit multiple communities.  Higher Heights for America PAC strongly encouraged its members to support Melissa’s campaign with their time, talent and resources.
