Higher Heights for America PAC was proud to endorse Shawn Lassiter to represent Texas’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Shawn Lassiter is a non-profit leader, a lifelong educator, a single mom, and a former science teacher. The path to her campaign for TX-6 is far from typical. Growing up in a family of five — with a single mom who only earned $14,000 per year as a special education aide — Shawn knows the sting of poverty. She also knows the resilience of working families, and public servants like her parents: folks who will do whatever is necessary to provide for their children and families. Shawn understands the power of education and its ability to liberate people beyond their circumstances.

Shawn became the first in her family to attend a four-year college when she made the life changing decision to attend Alabama State University, an HBCU in Montgomery where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She then moved her three children to Fort Worth, where she taught high school science and coached the girls basketball team at Paschal High School. While teaching and coaching, Shawn got a Master’s in Public Administration, moved into administration in her local school district, and then helped to spearhead a first of its kind educational and racial equity program. She currently serves as the Chief of Equity and Innovation at Leadership ISD, a nationally respected non-profit that helps communities leverage their power to change educational outcomes for their youths. Shawn is also enrolled in a PhD program at Texas Christian University.
