Higher Heights Endorses Angela Alsobrooks for U.S. Senator of Maryland

BROOKLYN (MAY 11, 2023) –Higher Heights for America PAC, a political action committee dedicated to electing more Black women to public office, has officially announced its endorsement of Angela Alsobrooks for U.S. Senate.

A lifelong Marylander, Alsobrooks was born and raised in Prince George’s County. Alsobrooks was taught from a young age to care for her neighbors and give back to her community – urged on by the words of her great-grandmother not to sit on the sidelines but “go farther and do better.”

Alsobrooks heard an early calling to public service and after graduating from Duke University and the University of Maryland School of Law, she worked as the first full-time Assistant State’s Attorney to handle domestic violence cases in Prince George’s County, before making history as the youngest and first woman to be elected Prince George’s County State’s Attorney.

As the county’s top law enforcement officer, Alsobrooks stood up for families, taking on some of Maryland’s worst criminals, while treating victims and the accused with dignity and respect.

In 2018, Alsobrooks was elected Prince George’s County Executive, the first woman to hold the position and the first Black woman elected to the office of County Executive in Maryland history.

“Higher Heights enthusiastically supports Angela Alsobrooks in her bid to be the first Black woman Senator to represent the great state of Maryland.  We know she is a necessary voice in the U.S. Senate,” said Glynda C. Carr, President of Higher Heights for America PAC. “We currently have zero Black women in the Senate and Angela can ensure that all Black women will have a voice in this body. She has been a champion of job creation, bringing down the cost of living, improving healthcare and strengthening our kids’ education. She will not only fight for Maryland, but she will also fight for all of us when she is elected to office.”

“There aren’t a lot of people in the U.S. Senate who live like, think like and who look like the people they are supposed to represent. I will be a senator who fights for equity and the rights of those I represent while working to pass legislation that will benefit all Americans,” said Angela Alsobrooks. “I’m running to be a voice for the families like the ones I grew up with and who I’ve worked for my entire life. I am honored that Higher Heights for America is supporting my candidacy as I seek to be a voice for all Marylanders.”
