HIGHER HEIGHTS PAC THANKS REP. SHEILA JACKSON LEE ON HER HARD-FOUGHT RACE FOR MAYOR OF HOUSTON
The nation’s only political action committee exclusively dedicated to electing more Black women to political office endorsed and supported Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s run to become Houston’s first Black woman Mayor
BROOKLYN – Following a hard-fought campaign, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has conceded her race to become the first Black woman to represent Houston as Mayor. Higher Heights for America PAC Vice President of Programs, Eboni Taylor issued the following statement thanking Ms. Jackson Lee on her well-run race:
“While it is disappointing that Houston will not elect its first Black woman Mayor this year, Higher Heights is proud to have endorsed and supported Rep. Lee, who ran a hard-fought race despite the barriers that were placed in her path such as her opponent being primarily self-financed, outspending her nearly 10-fold, mostly on advertising in a low-turnout race with just under 132,000 ballots cast.
Rep. Lee has the leadership, experience, proven record, and vision that made her an excellent mayoral candidate for the city of Houston.
The fact of the matter is, that we must all do our part to support Black women candidates on their paths to victory. Whether it’s donating our time, money, or talents – everyone has the ability to contribute to our country’s progress. Higher Heights PAC remains steadfast in its commitment to uplift Black women candidates at all levels of government and put our country back on the path to parity and helping Black women candidates overcome what sometimes seems like insurmountable obstacles when running for office.
If Americans truly want to see advancements in better policies and diverse representation in our government, we all have to come together and invest in electing more Black women to every level of government.
Again, thank you to Congresswoman Lee for conducting a resilient campaign.
