Aprill O. Turner is a seasoned public relations strategist with deep roots in the political world. Her portfolio includes working as press advisor for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), deputy press secretary for Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA), and communications director for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). She also has led media strategy for several local and national political campaigns. Her expertise includes message development, media training, crisis communications and public affairs.
As communications director for Higher Heights for America, Turner crafts and leads the organization’s media relations. Prior to joining Higher Heights, she founded Turner Communications, LLC, which focuses on cause-related organizations and campaigns. Her clients have included The National Association of Black Journalists, Education Post, The Children’s Dental Health Project, The National Black MBA Association, Reliance Force, Democracy for America, The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools and Medgar Evers Center for Law and Social Justice.
Turner holds a bachelor’s degree in legal communications from Howard University and a master’s degree in political communication and fundraising from The George Washington University. She is currently completing her dissertation for Ph.D. in strategic communications at Regent University.
