Carol is a seasoned communications professional with over 20 years of experience in communications strategy, issue advocacy, electoral campaigns and power-building. In 2015 she launched Meridian Solutions, a social impact communications firm grounded in the framework of intersectionality. Meridian Solutions offers a wide range of services including strategic planning, branding and brand assessment, campaign planning and management, advocacy and organizing trainings, event planning, racial equity trainings, and project management. Carol is also a principal at 76 Words, a Democratic media and strategy firm that develops develops television, online and digital advertising for progressive candidates, party committees, ballot initiatives, and issue advocacy organization.
Before founding Meridian Solutions and joining 76 Words, Carol spent a decade leading organizing and advocacy work at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF). There she founded the Strategic Partnerships Department and developed a successful model for authentic engagement with communities of color. She also developed PPFA’s Race Equity Initiative, an internal interrogation and intervention of the organization’s internal policies and practices to disrupt the perpetuation of systemic racial disparities. She managed electoral and issue campaigns for Planned Parenthood, including the field campaign around passage of the Affordable Care Act, the independent expenditures for the 2008 and 2012 federal electoral campaigns, and a public education campaign in partnership with MTV and the Kaiser Family Foundation called Get Yourself Tested (GYT). In 2012, she directed the documentary A Vital Service: African American Stories of Reproductive Health Care.
In 2007 Carol took a leave of absence from PPFA to join Hillary Clinton’s historic presidential campaign where she served as Deputy Political Director in Iowa and worked with top-tier surrogates in several primary and caucus states.
Carol serves her community as Chair of the Board of Directors of Higher Heights for America, an organization dedicated to elevating the political leadership of Black women. She is an advisor to the National Birth Equity Collaborative and the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Religious Institute, a multi-faith organizations advocating for sexual, gender, and reproductive health, education, and justice in faith communities and society. To feed her artistic spirit, Carol volunteers with Stone Soup Films, a collective of visual artists who create promotional films for local social service organizations in the Washington, DC area.
