BROOKLYN (JUNE, 22, 2023) –Higher Heights for America PAC, a political action committee dedicated to electing more Black women to public office, has officially announced its endorsement of Lisa Blunt Rochester for U.S. Senate of Delaware.
Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester currently represents Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives and serves as an Assistant Whip for House Leadership. She now wants to represent Delaware as the first woman and Black U.S. Senator and if elected she will step into filling a big void of currently no Black women in the U.S. Senate.
Lisa was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2016. When she was sworn into office on January 3, 2017, she became the first woman and the first African-American to represent Delaware in Congress. She most recently won re-election in 2022.
Lisa sits on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce which has broad jurisdiction over health care, the environment, commerce and trade, energy policy, telecommunications, manufacturing, and consumer protection.
“The 2024 election cycle will again have the potential to be a historic moment for Black women. We currently have zero Black women in the Senate and Congresswoman Blunt Rochester is in a prime position to ensure that all Black women will have a voice in the upper chamber. Black women are again projected to be a critical and influential voting bloc in both the Democratic party primaries and general election,” said Glynda C. Carr, President and CEO of Higher Heights. “We were proud to support her 2016 election to congress, and since that time, Rep. Blunt Rochester has been a champion for the issues important to Black women such as the economy and healthcare. Lisa is not only qualified, but she also has the experience to lead at this pivotal moment for our nation.”
Higher Heights for America PAC is a political action committee providing Black women with a political home exclusively dedicated to harnessing their power to expand Black women’s elected representation and voting participation, and advance progressive policies from the voting booth to elected office, and creating the environment for Black women to run, win and lead.
