BROOKLYN — Higher Heights for America PAC, the only political action committee exclusively dedicated to electing more progressive Black women at all levels, is proud to endorse Val Demings for U.S. Senate.
Rep. Demings was first elected to Congress in 2016 representing Orlando and prior to that she held the distinction of being the city’s first Black woman police chief. She played a prominent role on the first House impeachment committee to charge President Donald Trump with wrongdoing—and was the only non-lawyer on the committee.
Higher Heights for America PAC endorsed and helped to send her to Washington in 2016 as one of her day one supporters.
“The 2022 election cycle will again have the potential to be a historic moment for Black women. We currently have zero Black women in the Senate and Rep Demings is in a position to ensure that all Black women will have a voice in the upper chamber. Next year is shaping up to have a record number of Black women running for the first time and to be re-elected. Black women are again projected to be a critical and influential voting bloc in both the Democratic party primaries and general election,” said Glynda C. Carr, President and CEO of Higher Heights. “We were proud to support her 2016 election for congress, and since that time, Rep. Demings has been a champion for the issues important to our membership such as the economy, healthcare, and policing issues. Her leadership efforts also helped catapult her to President Joe Biden’s shortlist as a possible running mate in 2020. Val is not only qualified, she has the experience to lead at this pivotal moment for our nation.”
Higher Heights knows that Val Demings is a fighter, and will fight for all of us in the U.S. Senate.
“When you grow up in the South poor, Black and female, you have to have faith in progress and opportunity. My father was a janitor and my mother was a maid — she said: ‘never tire of doing good, never tire,” said Rep. Demings. “I’ve never tired of representing Florida, not for one single moment. I’ve never tired of standing up for what I believe is right. Now I’m running for the United States Senate because of two simple words: never tire.”
